No More 'Mr. Coffee' Coffeemaker Plant Moved to Mexico, 400 To Lose
Jobs
Sunbeam Corp. has closed the plant in Glenwillow, Ohio, near Cleveland, where just under
400 Teamsters-member workers assembled "Mr. Coffee" coffee makers. Despite the
fact that the Ohio plant was highly profitable, the assembly operations and the jobs were
moved to Mexico, the Teamsters (IBT) reported, adding that most of the workers made
jobless by the move are African-American women. In addition, "Mr. Coffee"
distribution operations were moved to a facility in Mississippi.
