The membership of local
892 will be awarding two (2) scholarships of $500.00 each. One for the active members of
Local 892 and one for the retired members. You may apply for both, but can only win one
scholarship. ELIGIBILITY: Applicants to the Mary Alexander Scholarship Program must be: A child or grandchild by birth or legal adoption/guardianship of a Local 892 member, active or retired. A high school senior, graduating in 2001. Have a tentative acceptance by an accredited college or trade school. TO APPLY: Interested students must complete the attached application and mail it, along with a current, official transcript of grades and their typewritten essays of no more than 500 words. Scholarship Committee THE ESSAYS: If you wish to apply for the active members scholarship, your essay should be titled: "WHAT THE UAW HAS MEANT TO MY FAMILY" If you wish to apply for the retired members scholarship, your essay should be titled: "THE UNION, IT'S CHANGES & EFFECTS ON SOCIETY" Remember, if you are eligible, you may apply for both scholarships, but can only win one! SELECTION OF APPLICANTS: The Mary Alexander Scholarship Fund Committee will consider the applicant's academic record, participation in school and community activities. It will also consider content and neatness of essays when selecting the winners, Ah essays will be anonymous. When applications and essays are received at the Local, they will be assigned a number, by a non-committee member and forwarded to the Scholarship Committee prior to selection. PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Winners will be announced at the April 28, 2001 General Membership Meeting. The winners will be given their awards at the June t, 2001 General Membership Meeting. Payment will be made in the form of a check, made payable to the student and the school, to be endorsed by both.
